Book Publishers

  • ACTA Publicationswww.actapublications.com – Curt’s first book, "Down to Earth: Celebrating a Blessed Life on the Land", will be released by ACTA in January 2008. This Catholic publisher is located in the Chicago area, publishing a full array of Catholic and Christian books and devotionals and a separate branch of books on sports, particularly baseball.

    Magazines and Newspapers

  • Nebraska Lifewww.nebraskalife.com – Curt has been writing for Nebraska Life since 1999. This magazine, is owned and published by Chris Amundson in Norfolk, Neb. David Bristow is managing editor. Nebraska Life brings out the very best and most interesting stories of our home state.
  • American Profilewww.americanprofile.com – Published weekly and inserted in weekly and daily newspapers around the country, American Profile seeks out the heroes and hometowns of our nation that stand out with the spirit of generosity, courage and caring. Curt has written stories for American Profile about Verdigre, St. James, Lynch and Niobrara, Neb. as well as White Horse Ranch at Naper, Nebraska’s Big Rodeo at Burwell and Popcorn Days at North Loup.
  • Successful Farmingwww.agriculture.com/ag/sfonline – Successful Farming is one of the best-known and widely-read ag magazines in the country. Curt just started writing for SF two years ago, working mostly for business editor, Dan Looker. He’s covered stories about grass-fed beef, insuring agri-tourism ventures and continuous CRP. Most recently, Curt interviewed former Ag Secretary, Bob Bergland, about his reflections on the new Farm Bill, 30 years after he was at the helm of USDA. That article should appear in SF this spring.
  • Nebraska Farmerwww.nebraskafarmer.com – Curt and his family have been reading Nebraska Farmer as long as they have farmed. The magazine has roots in some of the earliest publications in the state. Curt works with managing editor, Don McCabe and has most recently covered pasture walks, Missouri River Futures group, the organic transition program through EQIP and shelterbelt plantings for the magazine. For Nebraska Farmer, Curt gets to write about one of the things he loves most – the family farm.
  • Living Here – Living Here does not have a web presence yet, by publisher Mary Ann Hoebelheinrich, with help from husband, Dale, has built herself a fine magazine that covers the true spirit of the people of northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota in her fledging publication. Curt has written stories about threshing reunions, local vineyards, outhouse lore and Niobrara State Park for Living Here.
  • New Holland Newswww.newholland.com/na/News – Editor Gary Martin gave Curt a big break when he took a chance on Curt’s writing back in 2000, when Curt completed a story and photos on the Brad Young family of rural Wausa and Bloomfield, Neb. and their rotational grazing system of beef production. Since then, Curt has written about 10 stories for New Holland News, covering Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa farmers.
  • Norfolk Daily Newswww.norfolkdailynews.com – Curt has been a correspondent for the Norfolk, Neb. regional daily paper for nearly twenty years, covering mostly farm related stories for farm editor, Mary Pat Hoag, who also helped Curt in polishing up his manuscript for his book. The Norfolk Daily News covers most of northeast Nebraska and is known for high quality agriculture reporting.
  • Crofton Journal – Curt gives credit to Kevin Henseler for teaching him how to properly interview and write stories for print and to photograph subjects for news reporting too. Kevin and Tweeter took a chance on Curt when he was still in high school, and for that opportunity, Curt owes the Crofton Journal great honor.
  • Cedar County News – Curt began writing "Farm to Family", a weekly column about family, farming and faith, after long-time farm columnist, Junior Thoene, retired at the young age of 80-something. Curt was honored to take his place on the editorial pages of the Cedar County News. His column also appears in several other papers owned by Rob and Peggy Year and their Northeast Nebraska News Agency in Coleridge, Laurel, Wausa, Randolph and Osmond, Neb., as well as the home base in Hartington.
